What determines the price we pay for a Patek Philippe?

It starts with the reference and its exact execution: case metal, dial colour and variants such as retailer signatures can shift the price considerably within the same reference. Next comes condition. A Patek with crisp edges and original surfaces that has never been refinished, or only with great care, is assessed differently from a heavily polished case. The third point is completeness – box, papers such as the Certificat d’Origine, an extract from the archives and receipts for purchase and servicing. Finally, the current market value of the reference counts. Taken together, these result in a fair offer in line with the market.

Selling a Nautilus or Aquanaut

With the steel Nautilus and Aquanaut models in particular, the details matter. We look closely at the edges of the case and bezel, because the alternation of brushed and polished surfaces shows whether, and how heavily, a watch has been refinished. With a metal bracelet, it matters whether all the links that were removed are still there; with an Aquanaut, whether the original strap is included – even if the watch has since been worn on a different one. Small items that are easily overlooked also belong to the set: hang tags, booklets, the outer box. A complete set with papers can be identified clearly and appraised accordingly.

Vintage Patek and inherited watches

Older Patek Philippe watches often come from within the family – a grandfather’s Calatrava, a gold watch from an estate, a pocket watch handed down through the generations. You do not need to know the reference or the year of manufacture; we establish both during the inspection. Box and papers are frequently missing, and sometimes the watch has not run for a long time. Neither stands in the way of an appraisal. If the watch is part of a collection or an estate, we are happy to visit you at home on request, in Bonn and the surrounding region.

Selling your Patek Philippe discreetly in Bonn

Anyone who offers a Patek Philippe privately through a listing makes their ownership public and negotiates with strangers. Selling to us spares you both: you deal with us in person at our shop, and we inspect your watch in front of you. No commission or auction fees are deducted when you sell to us directly. You decide on our offer in your own time and without obligation. If the sale goes ahead, you are paid immediately and discreetly.

Frequently asked questions about selling

How much will you pay for my Patek Philippe?
That depends on the reference, execution, condition, completeness and current market value – so there is no flat price. Send us photos via WhatsApp or visit us by appointment. The appraisal is free and without obligation; once we have examined the watch, you receive a fair offer in line with the market.
Do you buy a Patek Philippe without box and papers?
In principle, yes. A complete set with box and papers usually fetches more, because origin and execution are documented. If the papers are missing, an extract from the Patek Philippe archives can partly close the gap – provided the watch was first sold at least ten years ago. Old invoices or service records are helpful too.
What is an extract from the archives – and do I need one to sell?
The “Extract from the Archives” is a document from Patek Philippe’s archives, available on application for watches first sold at least ten years ago. Based on the movement and case numbers, it confirms, among other things, when the watch was made and in which execution. It is not a requirement for selling to us; if you already have one, please bring it along.
Should I have my Patek Philippe refinished before selling?
No. On the Nautilus and Aquanaut, brushed and polished surfaces alternate; polishing blurs these transitions, and on any case it removes metal that cannot be replaced. A service is not a requirement before the sale either – we look at the movement ourselves during the inspection. Simply bring any service records you have.
How should I photograph my Patek Philippe for the appraisal?
Ideally in daylight and without flash, so that the dial, edges and surfaces look as they really are. For a Nautilus or Aquanaut, an angled photo of the bezel from above also helps. Add a few words on the condition and history of the watch – that is all we need for a first appraisal.
What should I bring to the appointment in Bonn?
Besides the watch, everything you still have for it – box, papers, extract from the archives, invoices, service records and any removed bracelet links – as well as your identity card or passport. You can arrange the appointment at Brüdergasse 24 via WhatsApp, by phone or with the “Offer your watch” form on this page.
